Celebrity, and the two
choices that decide the trip

Fifteen ocean ships across four classes, a suite tier that works like a small ship inside the big one, and a brand new river fleet sailing the Danube and Rhine from August 2027.

Two decisions, and the rest follows

Almost every Celebrity booking comes down to two questions. Which class of ship, and are you in The Retreat or not. Get those right and the itinerary sorts itself out. Get them wrong and you either overpay for space you will not use or spend the week wishing you had booked up.

The fleet, by class

Edge Series is the modern fleet: Celebrity Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent and Xcel, with Celebrity Xcite arriving in 2028. These are the ships with the outward-facing design and the newest suite architecture.

Solstice Class is Celebrity Eclipse, Equinox, Reflection, Silhouette and Solstice. Larger, well proven, and frequently the better value on the same itinerary.

Millennium Class is Celebrity Constellation, Infinity, Millennium and Summit. The smallest of the ocean fleet, which is exactly why they reach ports the Edge ships cannot.

Celebrity Flora is the expedition ship, purpose-built for the Galapagos.

The choice is not simply newest is best. If your itinerary is port-heavy and the harbours are small, a Millennium ship beats an Edge ship. If you are crossing an ocean or spending sea days on board, the reverse.

The Retreat, and whether it is worth it

The Retreat is Celebrity's suite tier, and it functions more like a separate small ship inside the big one. Luminae is the suites-only restaurant with its own menus and complimentary signature dishes designed by Daniel Boulud. The Retreat Lounge serves complimentary drinks and refreshments through the day. The Retreat Sundeck, on Edge Series and revolutionised ships, has its own pool, hot tub, shaded loungers and bar.

Service comes with it: a dedicated butler reachable through Butler Chat on your own phone, a Destination Experience Specialist for excursions and transfers, and a spa concierge. Suite categories run from Sky Suite at the entry through Celebrity Suite, Royal Suite, Penthouse, Reflection Suite, Edge Villa and Iconic Suite.

Where the Retreat premium pays off is on long sailings and sea-day-heavy itineraries, because you are actually using the lounge, the sundeck and Luminae. On a seven-night port-intensive Caribbean run where you are ashore every day, the same money often buys more by staying in a veranda and upgrading the excursions instead. I price both before recommending either.

All Included, and what it actually covers

Celebrity's All Included fare pairs the Classic Drinks Package with Basic Wi-Fi: beers, spirits, cocktails, liqueurs, frozen drinks, wines by the glass, bottled water, sodas, premium coffees and teas, plus enough Wi-Fi to browse, check email and use messaging apps. Whether tips are folded in, and whether an upgrade to premium drinks or faster Wi-Fi is worth buying, depends on the promotion running at the time you book. That changes often, and it is one of the things I check rather than guess.

Celebrity is going to the rivers

Celebrity River Cruises launches in August 2027 with five ships: Celebrity Boundless, Compass, Roamer, Seeker and Wanderer. Europe to start, on the Danube through Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Belgrade and Bucharest, and on the Rhine through Basel, Strasbourg, Cologne and Amsterdam.

The product is all-suite with king beds in every room and the first Skylight Infinite Balcony Suites, and the fare covers all meals, beverages including alcohol, Wi-Fi, entertainment and one shore excursion per day, with complimentary mini bars, six dining venues and butler service in suites.

This is worth knowing early. Inaugural seasons on a new river fleet sell on reputation before anyone has sailed them, and the best cabins on the best weeks go first. If a 2027 Danube or Rhine sailing is on your list, talk to me now rather than next spring. See also my river cruise page for how Celebrity's entry compares with AmaWaterways.

Interline, for airline employees

Celebrity reaches me on the daily Royal Caribbean Group interline file, alongside Royal Caribbean and Silversea. The numbers move every day and nothing gets published here. Send me a ship and a date and you get the interline fare and the public fare side by side, plus an honest answer about which one actually wins once All Included and the suite category are factored in, because the interline rate does not always come out ahead.

Straight answers

What is included in Celebrity's All Included fare?

All Included pairs the Classic Drinks Package with Basic Wi-Fi. The drinks package covers beers, spirits, cocktails, liqueurs, frozen drinks, wines by the glass, bottled water, sodas, premium coffees and teas. Basic Wi-Fi covers browsing, email and messaging apps. Whether tips are included, and whether upgrading to premium drinks or faster Wi-Fi is worth it, depends on the promotion live when you book. Ask me and I will check rather than guess.

What is The Retreat and is it worth the money?

The Retreat is Celebrity's suite tier: the suites-only Luminae restaurant with signature dishes by Daniel Boulud, the Retreat Lounge with complimentary drinks through the day, the Retreat Sundeck with its own pool and bar on Edge Series and revolutionised ships, plus a dedicated butler, a Destination Experience Specialist and a spa concierge. It pays off on long sailings and sea-day-heavy itineraries where you use those spaces. On a port-intensive week the same money often does more in a veranda cabin with better excursions.

Which Celebrity ships are the newest?

The Edge Series: Celebrity Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent and Xcel, with Celebrity Xcite arriving in 2028. Solstice Class is Eclipse, Equinox, Reflection, Silhouette and Solstice. Millennium Class is Constellation, Infinity, Millennium and Summit. Celebrity Flora is the Galapagos expedition ship.

Should I book the newest Celebrity ship?

Not automatically. If your itinerary is port-heavy with small harbours, a Millennium Class ship gets you closer to more places than an Edge Series ship can. If you are crossing an ocean or spending real time on board, the newer ship earns its premium. Tell me the itinerary and I will tell you which way it falls.

When do Celebrity River Cruises start and what is included?

August 2027, with five ships: Celebrity Boundless, Compass, Roamer, Seeker and Wanderer. Danube itineraries call at Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Belgrade and Bucharest; Rhine itineraries at Basel, Strasbourg, Cologne and Amsterdam. All-suite with king beds throughout and the first Skylight Infinite Balcony Suites. The fare covers all meals, beverages including alcohol, Wi-Fi, entertainment and one shore excursion a day, with complimentary mini bars, six dining venues and butler service in suites.

Should I book a Celebrity river cruise now or wait?

If a 2027 Danube or Rhine sailing interests you, now. Inaugural seasons on a brand new river fleet sell out on anticipation, and the best suite categories on the best weeks go first. Waiting to see reviews means booking whatever is left.

Do airline employees get interline rates on Celebrity?

Yes. Celebrity comes to me on the daily Royal Caribbean Group interline file alongside Royal Caribbean and Silversea. Nothing is published here because the numbers move daily. Send me a ship and a date and you get the interline fare and the public fare side by side, plus which one actually wins once All Included and the cabin category are counted. The interline rate does not always come out ahead, and I will tell you when it does not.

Can Celebrity do the Galapagos?

Yes, on Celebrity Flora, which was purpose-built for it. It is a different kind of booking from a mainstream Celebrity sailing, with a shorter season for some itineraries and limited capacity, so it wants planning further ahead than a Caribbean week.
